Grain worship !

July 20th, 2006 by taggy

It was an usual day until the noon .The classes wound up and i was at canteen for my lunch.

Just when i had bought my lunch and sat down to eat,i saw this young gal who came up to sit in front of me . The tiring look on her face told me enough , she was a first year bored of attending all the morning session classes and desperate for the weekend.

While she sat down to eat , she quitely closed her eyes murmered a prayer and then sprinkled the water around her which i guess is prayer for the grains that gods have bestowed ,probably a prayer to thank god for not letting her eb hungry and a thanks to every grain he gave her.

SO wonderful it looked how many of us manage to do that ?

i have never done that although i plan to :) from now on .

    When I was in a boarding school during my 8th - 10th grade period, we were made to sit on a clean floor everyday before a half served meal and pray in a group, loud & clear !

    A couple of us were assigned to serve the rest of us in batches and it was enchanting to watch the whole process from the serving room, which was at a distance.

    It was a very humbling social experience which I continued to practice, though individually, for some time after school.

    Slowly, like all good habits, it waded :)

    The Prayer performed by us before taking Food is from Bhagavad Gita - Chapter 4 Verse 24:

    Brahmaarppanam
    Brahma Havi;
    Brahmaagnow Brahmanaa Hutham;

    Brahmaiva Thena Ganthavyam Brahmakarma Samaadhinaa;
    Hari… Aum

    The Process is Brahman,
    the clarified Butter is Brahman
    Offered by Brahman in the fire of Brahman;
    by seeing Brahman in action he reaches Brahman alone.

    Above Prayer is performed
    Everywhere in India and all over the World,
    by MANY wherever there are
    Ramakrishna Mission Ashramas,
    Educational Institutions and
    Homes maintained by RKM and Sri Sarada Devi Mutts as well as by Devotees.
    This brings in everyone the discipline,
    health and success in all aspects.

    The Girl, referred to by Taggy
    may likely to be one of the MANY.
