It would have helped if you had linked the picture to a slightly larger version so we can actually see how it looks { and your mail items while we’re at it! }
How the hell did I find this blog ? Got sucked into Hotmail beta -> Found Archana’s “Spaces” blog -> t’is…
back to my take FC6 — down with the g** tango icons and up with the autofs direct map support. its about time.

BTW - Archana - about your question..
XGL is a X Server.
OpenGL is a set of APIs.
Wanna get more confused — google up Xglx and Xegl

I havent looked in to the code of Xgl as such,i did get a chance to talk to the developers of Xgl on IRC.
From what i could learn ,OpenGL provided you a set of API`s to draw on the graphics.For eg, you could use
glColor(x,y,z) we could set colour
glPolygon(); could be used to draw polygons,Xgl is built on top of OpenGl and it uses the ability of OpenGL to provide acceleration.which eventually leads to fade efect,minimization effect. And it requires a window manager(like the more popular ones gnome ,kde and many more) to enable all this and its down through compiz(COmposite window manager).Most of the code developed in house was released finally by Novell.
It`s not entirely new as such.Remember MAC OSX could do the minimization effect so long ago.
Just that when it comes entirely free and the code to look at it .The chances are you will be able learn more .
May be someone can install and see for themselves let me promise Fedora Core 6 is damn stable and fast however if u think its risky ! try it on a partition of 10GB ,Dont worry ur windows Wont be lost
Although it has run in to a little of trouble which led to a new project forking out called Beryl which is being adopted by Ubuntu and other completely Free (Free as in freedom) Linux flavours.
