Watching this movie is like reading the bible in a new light…and I donot mean that in a conformist kind of way but as a fresh, new perspective into a man who knows that he is ready to die but is ready to do so anyway, to serve a cause that streches beyond his life & where he currently sees it going.

StrangerThanFiction

Parts of the first 30 minutes are not even in the same ball park as the other Will Ferrell comedies but this one comes delivered in a special envelope, sealed by the ‘Mark of Forster’ (Monster’s ball, Finding Neverland).

Another treat to watch in the DVD is the featurette that tells the story of the GUI that follows the protagonist, especially in the first half of the movie.

The story, as you may have gathered, is about an IRS agent who finds himself surrounded by a voice that begins to narrates his life in a certain not-so-stolid, not-too-excited tone and the events that ultimately lead to his death. Ramshackled by this revelation, the protagonist starts to find ways to stop this narrator, which ultimately leads him to an author that is essentially writing his story as it happens in real life. Now, he is faced with a choice of stopping the author or letting her finish the book, an act that would essentially kill him if it happened.

The movie definitely has some food for thought and the ocassional humor in scenes that involve the leading lady, Maggie Gyllenhaal, add some much needed satire to, imho, an otherwise wry comedy.

Also, it might interest you to note that the protagonist shares a last name with the author of this wonderful story.
