As a kid growing up in India, I would hear about the Dandaka Aranya, Dwaraka, Gandharva, Tushara etc.

But where exactly on the map of India are they located ? How far are they from each other ?

Here is an awesome map that hopes to answer some of that :

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e4/EpicIndia.jpg

I had some fun going through some of the names - the ones that got me thinking :
- Andhraka (around Krishna basin)
- Telinga (around Godavari )

I belong to this area and those that do know about the socio-political border dispute going on in the State of Andhra Pradesh between the Telangana and Andhra regions. I did not know those names are derivations of names of ancient kingdoms.

Yes NIT-Trichy follows the big league. Now students have their own blogs from the college .

Its great to see that we are one of the first in the country to offer blog space for students.Other big universities that offer student blogs are Stanford and harvard .

It comes with a lot of aniticipation and also interesting how the content in the blogs will be monitored. No matter how much of freedom is given ,content on a institute sponsored site has to be monitored and i wonder how delta will rise up to this challenge .In the meantime enjoy http://delta.nitt.edu/blogs and btw these blogs have just been released and will be online soon :-) .NITT is undergoing a sea change here ,what with paying fees is just a click on the ATM machine. No more filling up chalans, waiting in Q and what not .

For those who cant wait here is the screenshot
blogs@delta

The plans have also been updated to include feeds from college alumni although they wont be having accounts here ,i think its a good idea to build a closer network of your college alumni :) .

I was trying to mix some groovy beats with a splash of Asian Acoustics and loved this final mix that I created. Hope you will like it too :)

Acoustic Asia - Uday Jarajapu - Santoor, Electric & Acoustic Guitars, Dance beat loops

It features an eastern Santoor to bring a sense of melody to the track and is complemented with Acoustics that I custom made by tailoring existing loops. The initial funk on an electric guitar was meant originally to be a mild distraction to complement the beats but I loved it at a higher pitch and volume and decided it to leave it that way. The beats are a contemporary club dance loop that I found in my stash. Enjoy !

It has been a few days since I posted. I was just busy with things at work and then mixing some sound tracks on my new toy, a mac mini :). I know, I know it is old as 06 (05? 06?) but I just had to get my hands on a real one :)…and let me tell you, ever since I got my hands on one, I got busier and busier. Nothing in particular, just a million

At first, it was how do you get a stable gcc to work on the Mac OS X without downloading a gigabyte of XCode binaries. That proved to be the easy one. Then it was how do I make Apache work on the Mini. Trust me, that was by far the longest time consuming thing for me on a Mini, the brainless geek that I am. All I had to do was look at the manual and figure out that it is already installed and all I have to do is just turn on the Personal Web Sharing, more like ..(umm., click on a check box?)..duh ?!

Then, I spent a couple of hours downloading the MacFuse and installing sshfs and ntfs-3g so I could mount remote file systems (through ssh) and NTFS partitioned disks in a READ/WRITE mode on my cute little mac mini. That proved to be an interesting challenge and I got it up after struggling with it for a few days.

Ok, now that all that is behind me and I have working mini that doubles as a media center (hooked to my TV) and a file storage system, the geek in moi cudnt b happ-E-yaa !

What is more, I got to play with GarageBand all day yesterday and mix some groovy tracks using the built-in library of loops and sound bytes. A liked my mixes a lot. I hope to post them on the blog soon. I hope you will give me a good feedback :) .

It is a monster, this Garage Band. It lets you mix pretty much any live instrument and add some nice punch using some existing beats to quickly create a soundtrack of your tastes and impose it on a video of your choice. The tuney looney that I am, I love this new toy.

I think I will start posting music tracks once in a while to see what you guys think. Let me know if you are interested in sharing them, putting them on your blog etc.

How long before we can pause the TV channel we are watching, check out what the people on screen are wearing in our favorite stores, blog about the part of a TV episode that we really loved and effortlessly chat real-time with a friend who shares the same interest as ours but is miles apart ?

Well. Joost may not have realized the full potential but it is certainly a step in the right direction. To see what I am talking about, check out the link to this piece of programming on a Joost Channel.

Needless to say, it is a link to some arcane part of a hindi movie I was watching :)

!

More Information about the program.
Description : Yeh Hai Jalwa is the story of happy-go-lucky Raju. Street-smart and worldly-wise, Raju?s life takes a turn when he finds out he is the illegitimate son of seriously rich, UK-based …

I think Retail me not is a great idea in the world of online shopping.

The basic concept is simple - remember all those “Enter your coupon code here” text boxes when you shop online ? Well, I always wanted to but could never knew how to find a code or what promotions were current and active for a given online shopping portal at present.

RetailMeNot.com solves this problem in a brilliant fashion - by deploying a community ! Avid shoppers post and exchange information related to coupon codes for each website and even vote on each posted coupon code to tell others what coupon codes worked for them !

Also, I like the home page with a tag cloud. It looks like a one-stop shop to find out all the hot online deals ! Needless to say, the three most used tags are - Clothing, Computers and Business :)
