Watching this movie is like reading the bible in a new light…and I donot mean that in a conformist kind of way but as a fresh, new perspective into a man who knows that he is ready to die but is ready to do so anyway, to serve a cause that streches beyond his life & where he currently sees it going.
Parts of the first 30 minutes are not even in the same ball park as the other Will Ferrell comedies but this one comes delivered in a special envelope, sealed by the ‘Mark of Forster’ (Monster’s ball, Finding Neverland).
This phenomenon called rajni is back with his latest movie titled his own name with a tagline thats true to his status here ( The Boss ) .As it happens with every rajni film ,there is anxiety ,talk over the undisclosed amount he has been paid for his work and the number of records it can break, which more of ten than not are records set by his own films.
Chandramukhi ,his last film was a clear example of it,grossing 100 crores and running in theatres for more than a year .
What makes sivaji even more special is the looks of rajni ,director shankar is always known for the pre releasy hype with his films ,we saw vikram dressed in weird costumes before anniyan got released and the same with rajni .The rajni that the stills show is the guy you would see his billa ,the dress and stills definitely bring to memory the more enrgetic, stylish phenomenon called RAJNI.
Starring Aishwarya Rai, this movie is based on a true story of an Indian immigrant Kiranjit Ahluwalia. Unable to bear the brutality and repeated rapes by her allegedly abusive and alcoholic husband, a battered Punjabi housewife and mother of two, Kiranjit Ahluwalia (Aishwarya Rai) sets fire to her abusive husband, Deepak Ahluwalia (Naveen Andrews) and kills him unintentionally. Charged with murder, she is sentenced to life imprisonment where she befriends her cellmate, a wealthy white woman named Veronica Scott (Miranda Richardson), from whom she learns English. Her cell mate is so moved by her story that she asks her step-brother, Edward Foster (Robbie Coltrane)
My wife and I loved the movie and were thoroughly entertained by the cheeky flavor of comedy that pervaded the first few minutes of this crossover. I think Mira Nair is yet to produce her best ever and part of the reason might be that she gets better every time (leaving her first ever aside ofcourse) !
“I had no sense of losing a parent or parent-figure at that time”, said Jhumpa Lahiri, the author of ‘Namesake’ in an interview, sitting along with Mira, “”But I was watching what it was like for my parents to lose those dear to them in another country. More importantly, I was just coming to the age I saw my parents’ friends lose someone close to them to a heart attack and cancer.”
I guess that meant the book was supposed to be in part, a memoir of a person who experiences paternal loss and begins searching for his roots, while standing strong on his context, and in part, an ode to the loss of context that an immigrant experiences as he tries to make home in a foreign land, away from his roots.
Somewhere in the last few scenes of the movie, I feel that Mira Nair might has subtly transformed Gogol’s character to a much more sentimental, reasonably shaken and fragile one than the book originally intended it to be. Although, the brilliant movie maker that she is, she pulled it nicely together by throwing the audience back to a page right in the middle of the book where the Dad and Son take this small little walk to where “there is no where else left to go”. That pleased the reader in me well enough to go “Now THAT is an ending!” because I knew that the book had no cinematic appeal to how it ended and I was wondering what Mira saw fit to conclude this part love story, part melancholy and part ode.
A delightful film really ,one of those rare movies i have watched over 2 times in a span of 10 hours. The story is all about a simple piognant gal called lolita who grows up with a rich neighbourhood boy called shekar. The relationship which builds as a friendship then comes down to love as they grow big.All the while when lolita`s father took a loan from shekar`s rich father which he would never be able to pay.
All is fine until we have Girish jumping in from london ,which then stirs shekar`s mind about their relationship and in a short time it all turns down ,the relations get sour and lolita`s moves along with girish to london.enraged shekar`s tries to marry another girl what happens is something probably you should see.
What i liked most was the stubborn love lolita had for shekar and his confidence
We have a new talk in the Telugu Movie Town ! You all know that 2006 has been a tremendously great year for telugu movies. To sum up this great year in style, we got a few great releases coming up in the next few weeks - namely Sainikudu and Mayabazaar !
Now, I am not the one who usually writes movie previews but it looks like this movie is quickly turning into the talk of the town and gaining steam because of sleek audio and an incognito style of marketing (the producer and director are keeping the story & concept under close wraps till the very end) !
Check this out!!!
Archana & I thought it would be fun to put together a new project called “Mayabazaar - pic stream” ! We took some images from Idlebrain and a sleek song we liked from the audio (Hi Lovely!) and created a cool picstream using Jumpcut !!
Talking about the technical crew of the movie , one of the main highlights is the director - Mohanakrishna Indraganti. His venturesome first movie, ‘Grahanam’, a gripping silver screen version of the famous Telugu writer Chalam, won him a national award but left him craving for limelight. This time, he is back with B.Satyanarayana, producer of Missamma fame, to make a feel-good entertainer with a subtle message! The movie is racing towards theaters on November 23rd and the industry insider talk rates it as something with a potential to become one of the top four telugu movies for 2006 and join the ranks of Bommarillu !
Update
Unfortunately, this movie has been delayed until further notice due to some pending work on the movie graphics. Bay movies will be updated pretty soon with the new showtimes & schedules.
Looking at the indiaglitz trailers, the depth of the technical crew and the insider talk, it looks like this movie is going to rock and roll at the box office !
So, Hype machine says 4.2/5!
Bay-movies bought the bay area (CA) rights to this movie and will be screening at the Ubiquitous Sagar’s Park Theatre location in Fremont, CA.
Disclaimer: I must confess though, that I am part of the team that bought the bay area screening rights of this movie :)…so come, watch it, judge the hype and Enjoy !!
I was not sure why I chose this movie for the Friday evening get out but it turned out to be a good ride. Coryand from Taiwan claims the movie is not as intense as the original but I guess Scorcese intended to have that effect, with a ubiquitously funny Jack Nicholson playing the all powerful Costello and Mark Wahlberg’s in-your-face one liners that add to the levity.
Luckily for me, I did not watch the original and so, I can not comment on the lack of intensity or the depth of characters. However, I can say Leonardo more than makes up for the gravity end of things with a crafty transposition from a serious cop to a reckless renegade who tries desperately to step into his father’s shoes. To most mainstream American movie viewers, the movie is a thrill ride and its Imdb ratings seem to suggest the same. The movie even hit the Imdb top 250 as of today morning,
