We spent the new years’ eve at Sandadi 2008 listening to live Telugu Music from the new & happening band - Aavakai.

They are also known as “drumstix” in the non-telugu speaking community and produce live entertainment shows and concerts in Telugu and Hindi. Surya & Sushmitha, the founders of Aavakai, are good friends of ours. Surya is the talented musician that tied the band together while Sushmitha manages their rather large group of talented musicians.

The response for Sandadi 2008 was tremendous but the place was a little too crammed for 500+ people. But what would you do when you are only on your second show as a band and are already sold out completely ? You try and deliver your best. And that is what Aavakai did. They chose a wide variety of Telugu songs and tried to reach out to the whole Audience.

Dinner and drinks were served at the Sandadi 2008 venue as well. The Food from Peacock India was good. All in all, the Audience seemed to have a blast at Sandadi 2008 and were up on their feet through out the event.

We enjoyed the electric ambience of Sandadi 2008 as much as everybody but felt that the true musical depth of this band has not been presented last night. To be honest, I liked their debut better than Sandadi 2008 , the New Year event. I hope they will continue to improvise, perform, enthuse and enthrall the bay area audience going into 2008 and for many more years to come.

Hoping you’ll like it this time :)

I was trying to mix some groovy beats with a splash of Asian Acoustics and loved this final mix that I created. Hope you will like it too :)

Acoustic Asia - Uday Jarajapu - Santoor, Electric & Acoustic Guitars, Dance beat loops

It features an eastern Santoor to bring a sense of melody to the track and is complemented with Acoustics that I custom made by tailoring existing loops. The initial funk on an electric guitar was meant originally to be a mild distraction to complement the beats but I loved it at a higher pitch and volume and decided it to leave it that way. The beats are a contemporary club dance loop that I found in my stash. Enjoy !

It has been a few days since I posted. I was just busy with things at work and then mixing some sound tracks on my new toy, a mac mini :). I know, I know it is old as 06 (05? 06?) but I just had to get my hands on a real one :)…and let me tell you, ever since I got my hands on one, I got busier and busier. Nothing in particular, just a million

At first, it was how do you get a stable gcc to work on the Mac OS X without downloading a gigabyte of XCode binaries. That proved to be the easy one. Then it was how do I make Apache work on the Mini. Trust me, that was by far the longest time consuming thing for me on a Mini, the brainless geek that I am. All I had to do was look at the manual and figure out that it is already installed and all I have to do is just turn on the Personal Web Sharing, more like ..(umm., click on a check box?)..duh ?!

Then, I spent a couple of hours downloading the MacFuse and installing sshfs and ntfs-3g so I could mount remote file systems (through ssh) and NTFS partitioned disks in a READ/WRITE mode on my cute little mac mini. That proved to be an interesting challenge and I got it up after struggling with it for a few days.

Ok, now that all that is behind me and I have working mini that doubles as a media center (hooked to my TV) and a file storage system, the geek in moi cudnt b happ-E-yaa !

What is more, I got to play with GarageBand all day yesterday and mix some groovy tracks using the built-in library of loops and sound bytes. A liked my mixes a lot. I hope to post them on the blog soon. I hope you will give me a good feedback :) .

It is a monster, this Garage Band. It lets you mix pretty much any live instrument and add some nice punch using some existing beats to quickly create a soundtrack of your tastes and impose it on a video of your choice. The tuney looney that I am, I love this new toy.

I think I will start posting music tracks once in a while to see what you guys think. Let me know if you are interested in sharing them, putting them on your blog etc.

S.P. Balasubrahmaniam (affectionately called Balu) was in the Bay Area (Hayward, San Jose) for a wonderful Music Concert of golden melodies in Tamil. To those few who would like to know more about his astounding music career, here is his official website.

We had a chance to meet up with him. Here are some pictures of me chatting with the melody master!
